With the increase in the number of media outlets, the demand for trained journalists is ever increasing. Moreover, journalists can be found practicing strategic communication as they work in advertising, public relations and marketing along with areas such as development, health care, politics and entertainment.
BA in Journalism, Mass Communication and Sociology at Thames is a 3-year (6 semester) program. The program is offered by School of Social Sciences in association with Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University. Students are required to complete 90 credit hours of course work and practicum training.
Students are also required to appear for 14 course examinations. The program is designed in reference with the UNESCO’s Model Curricula for Journalism Education.
To develop understanding of the best practices of Journalism, a culture of research, and promoting the understanding of Information Management and its role in continuously developing news media are some of the core learnings to achieve from this course. Furthermore, students will learn to develop in-depth knowledge in the society through study of Sociology as Second major.
The wider world can be better acquainted with through study of courses like religion, psychology and contemporary social issues. Students will be able to understand Ethics and a greater Social Responsibility, by the use of clear thinking and critical analyses of a given situation.
