Nepal Social Work Symposium 2018

Nepal Social Work Symposium is the annual flagship event organized by the School of Social Sciences and the Social Work Club of Thames International College. Designed to spark critical conversations, the event aligns itself each year with the global theme set by The Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development (The Agenda). In 2018, the symposium was structured around the theme Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability and held over two days, on June 7 and 8.

The event brought together a remarkable lineup of thought leaders and changemakers, offering an engaging mix of activities—from slam poetry and book talks to panel discussions and interactive workshops. These sessions were curated not only to inform but also to inspire students and participants to reflect deeply on social and environmental challenges.

With notable figures such as Ghana Shyam Gurung, Narayan Wagle, Manoj Pandit, Ranju Darshana, and Ila Sharma in attendance, the symposium critically analyzed the political, social, and environmental dynamics of Nepal. Through compelling discussions on issues such as corruption, youth engagement, and sustainable development, these experts brought fresh perspectives and encouraged participants to envision more just and sustainable communities.

Each year, Nepal Social Work Symposium stays committed to its mission—creating a platform where students, professionals, and social advocates come together to engage in meaningful dialogue, foster collaboration, and inspire informed action.
