What better way to begin Mental Health Awareness Month than with a powerful 6km run—Move for Mental Health—aimed at highlighting the essential connection between movement and both physical and mental well-being. Organized by Thames Heart and Mind Hub, the event marked the start of a month-long series of activities dedicated to promoting mental wellness, to promote open conversations, and create a supportive culture.
Throughout May, the Heart and Mind Hub has lined up a range of engaging programs including insightful sessions, interactive workshops, and talks by guest speakers, all centered around mental health awareness and holistic well-being. These initiatives are designed not only to inform but also to empower students and staff to prioritize their mental health and seek support when needed.
Move for Mental Health was proudly facilitated by Anisha Gurung, a Thames alumna, mountain biker, trail runner, and wilderness first-aid certified guide. She represented Nepal in cycling at the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) in 2019, and brought her experience and energy to this cause-driven event.
With active participation from students, faculty, and staff, the event wasn't just about running, it was a powerful step toward breaking stigmas, encouraging self-care, and embracing the therapeutic benefits of movement.
