The School of Social Sciences hosted a two day long event titled “Psych Sphere” on August 28 and 29. The theme for the event was "Decentering Psychology: Infinite Possibilities". The event explored the possibilities in the field of psychology, taking classroom discussions beyond the classes and courses- giving students an opportunity to learn about women's contribution in psychology, exploring the scope of psychology, connecting with individuals who are engaged in the field, and also providing a space to critically look into psychological concepts and notions.
On the first day of the event, the School of Social Sciences launched the Career Booklet titled “Padhai, Practice and Pathways” for psychology students. The booklet is designed to answer some questions that are frequently asked by students, while some professionals were also interviewed to share their insights into the field. This gave students an opportunity to explore curiosity while also helping them navigate their journey to pursue psychology.
Afterwards, there was a panel discussion on “Psychology in Nepal: Padhai, Practice and Pathways” where experts shared their experiences and career insights. The discussion focused on the existing gap between theory and practice and what professionals could do to minimize the gap. The panelists discussed integrating culturally grounded practices, increasing the exposure, also involving practitioners in teaching, and connecting to NGOs and INGOs where students get hands-on experience and practice.
While on Day 2, an interactive session with psychology practitioners was hosted where students got the chance to meet the professionals engaged in the field, ask questions and even build rapport accordingly. Simultaneously, a psychology quiz was conducted that made the event more interactive while keeping students engaged. Later, a murder mystery was presented for students to solve.
Alongside the major events, a psychology exhibition was held where various women in psychology were introduced, highlighted and explored. This gave students an opportunity to get familiar with women and their contribution in the field. A sensory room was also designed for students to relax, engage in different activities to stimulate their sensory experience. While another activity was designed for practical applications, engaging in experiential activities.
The overall intention of the event was to make students familiar with the existing concept, how practitioners experience it and understand the broader scope of psychology itself while also connecting with experts in the field. This was a fruitful experience for students curious about their studies, future and scope.
