Peer Support Group: What I Carry

Peer Support Group: What I Carry

The session “What I Carry” focused on grief and loss in its many forms, including the loss of people, relationships, places, dreams, and even past versions of ourselves. The session began with an open discussion where participants reflected on what grief meant to them and how it has shown up in their lives. With a smaller and more intimate group, the space encouraged honest sharing and emotional comfort.

Participants then engaged in a creative activity where they decorated boxes that symbolized their grief or something they wished to hold their emotions in. This was followed by a grounding clay activity where they created figurines or objects connected to their grieving journey, coping mechanisms, or personal support systems. These activities encouraged reflection, emotional expression, and processing through movement and creativity.

The session also included a guided reflection on “What Do I Want to Carry?” which opened conversations around coping with grief, shame, loneliness, and support. The discussion reinforced the idea that grief does not have to be carried alone and that healing can happen gradually, in one’s own time. By the end of the session, participants shared that they felt lighter than when they first arrived, and the session concluded on a hopeful note centered around growth, reflection, and moving forward.
