Autism Awareness Month: First Year Psychology Students engage with Teachers at Navjyoti Center

April is recognized globally as Autism Awareness Month, and to mark the occasion, the School of Social Sciences organized visits for several student groups to NGOs and centers dedicated to supporting children with neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism. This initiative not only aimed to raise awareness about autism but also to help students understand the diverse perspectives of children, parents, educators, and caregivers involved in their care.

On April 22, a group of first-year psychology students visited Navjyoti Center, a daycare facility that provides support for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. During their visit, students received an orientation about the center's mission and services, followed by meaningful interactions with both the teachers and the children.

The experience proved to be deeply reflective, offering students valuable insights into conditions such as autism, down syndrome, ADHD, and cerebral palsy. Moreover, this organization visit highlighted the societal stigma surrounding these conditions and emphasized the importance of empathy, inclusive education, and advocacy in the field of mental health and developmental care.
