BPsy Students Engage in Psychosocial Counseling Practicum at Machhapuchchhre World School

On February 11, 2025, the students of Psychology arrived at Machhapuchchhre World School for their practicum visit. As part of their psychosocial counseling course as well as Classroom to Community Program by SoSS, the 6th-semester students designed age-appropriate workshops for students in grades 6 through 10, focusing on emotional literacy, self-compassion techniques, and fundamental mental wellness concepts.

Divided into several groups, students facilitated interactive activities that encouraged participants of Machhapuchchhre World School to identify and articulate their emotions effectively.  The team implemented creative exercises that promoted self-appreciation and positive self-expression, creating a safe space for them to explore their feelings. Particularly impactful were the guided mindfulness sessions, where participants learned practical techniques for managing academic stress and social pressure.

The collaborative nature of the workshops fostered meaningful discussions about mental health stigma and the importance of seeking support when needed. The psychology students demonstrated remarkable professionalism and empathy throughout their facilitation, connecting authentically with participants across all grade levels. Several school teachers noted visible improvements in students' willingness to discuss emotional challenges openly after the workshops.

This experiential learning opportunity significantly enhanced our psychology students' practical counseling skills while making a tangible difference in the school community. The positive feedback from both participants and school administration highlighted the value of integrating mental health education into school environments.
