Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity in Khokana: Project "यक्व न्हिलेउ, यक्व ब्वनेउ"

On March 22, the Social Work Club of Thames, in collaboration with Rotaract Club of PD (Rotaract Club of People's Dental College), Youth Dentistry Nepal, and Lachhi (a local hub for ethnic foods, living, and products in Khokana Village), successfully executed its first social action project of the year—"यक्व न्हिलेउ, यक्व ब्वनेउ." This initiative was a concerted effort to strengthen community bonds across generations.

The project was designed to strengthen intergenerational solidarity among the people of Khokana while aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 4 (Quality Education). In honor of World Social Work Day, the event embraced this year’s theme, "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Well-being," to ensure a lasting impact within the community.

Through collaborative efforts with various organizations, educational institutions, and local initiatives, the Social Work Club of Thames curated a series of engaging activities for the residents of Khokana. The event featured a Dental Health Awareness Program, conducted in partnership with Rotaract Club of PDC and Youth Dentistry Nepal, to educate community members on oral hygiene and preventive dental care. A Reading Circle was held with students to promote literacy and inspire a love for reading among young learners. The Popular Script Class introduced children to the rich heritage of the Newar language, contributing to the preservation of cultural identity. Additionally, a Community Painting & Art session brought together individuals of all ages to create expressive artworks and drawings.

This Social Action project was all possible with the help of  Khokana Ward-21 for allowing the execution within their community and to Shree Rudrayani Secondary School for generously offering their venue to the Social Work Club of Thames. This project marks a significant step toward enhancing strong, inclusive communities.

(The Social Work Club of Thames (SWCT) is a committed group of members promoting awareness and interest in the field of social work. SWCT accepts and encourages students, regardless of their major, to be active and participate in bringing awareness to different social issues.)
