Nepal Social Work Symposium 2019

The School of Social Sciences and the Social Work Club of Thames International College proudly presented the Nepal Social Work Symposium 2019, inspired by the global theme of World Social Work Day: Promoting the Importance of Human Relationships. Held on May 27 and 28, this two-day event successfully created a vibrant space for dialogue, reflection, and critical engagement on the evolving dynamics of human relationships in today's complex world.

The symposium featured a rich tapestry of plenary sessions, film screenings, panel discussions, and interactive activities, each exploring the significance of human connection across various dimensions. From the shifting role of politics and social media, to the influence of news, democracy, language, and poetry, every session underscored how relationships shape and are shaped by the structures human beings live within.

Participants, ranging from students and faculty to social work professionals and invited speakers, engaged in meaningful conversations that highlighted the power of empathy, communication, and collective responsibility in facilitating stronger social bonds.

In essence, Nepal Social Work Symposium 2019 reaffirmed Thames' commitment to creating platforms that prioritize human dignity, inclusive dialogue, and academic activism, encouraging the next generation of change-makers to value and nurture the human connections at the heart of social work.
