On February 14, 2025, Thames College witnessed a heartwarming gathering as the Heart and Mind Hub hosted Community Connect - an event dedicated to exploring love beyond the conventional romantic lens. With an open and inclusive theme of love in all its forms, such as friendship, self-love, gratitude, and kindness, the event provided students with a space to connect, express, and reflect in unique ways.
It featured a series of engaging activities designed to encourage interaction and reflection. From the blindfold chocolate game, which challenged participants to rely on communication and trust, to lively musical moments that sparked laughter and camaraderie, the event created a dynamic and enjoyable atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the Letter Box invited attendees to take love letters written by the Heart and Mind Hub team. The letters included heartfelt messages to make readers feel appreciated and loved on Valentine's Day.
One of the most impactful activities was the "What I Wish I Had Said," where participants penned down unspoken words: apologies, confessions, or words of encouragement, creating a safe space for emotional release and self-reflection. All the writings were displayed on the wall for everyone to read and reflect upon. These activities emphasized that love is multifaceted, extending beyond romance to include care, understanding, and meaningful shared experiences.
Community Connect proved to be more than just an event; it was a reminder that love exists in everyday gestures, in the friendships we cherish, and in the kindness we extend to ourselves and others. Through creative and meaningful interactions, the Heart and Mind Hub successfully turned Valentine's Day into a celebration of love in its purest, most inclusive form.
