Nepal Social Work Symposium 2024

The School of Social Sciences (SoSS) and Social Work Club of Thames International College (SWCT) proudly hosted Nepal Social Work Symposium 2024 on June 20-21. Centered around the World Social Work Day 2024 theme, "Buen Vivir: Shared Future through Transformative Change," the symposium facilitated several informed discussions on the issues of human relationships with individuals, groups, and communities in Nepal and beyond, uninhibited by any boundaries, disciplinary or otherwise.

Day 1 featured an inauguration by the Chairman, followed by a plenary session with Narayan Wagle (Writer and Nature Walker), and a thought-provoking theatre play “लू.छू” by Thames Theatre Club, addressing menstruation in Nepal. Attendees also enjoyed two engaging exhibitions: Dalit Lives Matter & Living in the Mist.

Day 2 focused on Indigenous identities and youth in identity politics with a dynamic panel featuring Rita Sah, JB Bishwokarma, Indu Tharu, and moderator Kamaldev Bhattarai, along with a plenary session with Ujjwal Prasai (Scholar) and Shailee Chaudhary (Queer Activist). The Dalit Lives Matter and Living in the Mist exhibitions continued with guided tours, making the event a memorable experience.

It is the conviction of the college that such discussions at the local level can contribute to regional and global discussions on the importance of human relationships. In this respect, the symposium acts as a platform for meaningful dialogue and possible collaboration among like-minded individuals and organizations.
