Dialogue and Discussions for Cultural Diversity led by Indigenous Feminist Neha Gauchan

Thames International College has long celebrated Diversity Day as a platform to express and honor the rich tapestry of cultures, identities, and voices that make up the community. This year, the Heart and Mind Hub, in alignment with Mental Health Awareness Month, expanded this celebration by organizing a thought-provoking Dialogue and Discussions session on Cultural Diversity. The event aimed to unpack the deeper meanings of diversity, going beyond surface-level perceptions to explore the complexities of identity, inclusion, and belonging.

Held on May 21, the session was facilitated by renowned indigenous feminist Neha Gauchan, also known as Chyoki (she/they), who brought a powerful lens to the conversation. Drawing from personal experiences and critical feminist perspectives, Neha challenged mainstream narratives around culture and offered nuanced insights into how diversity and inclusion intersect with systems of power and societal norms.

Participants explored key themes such as cultural identity, dominant narratives, structural inequalities, and pathways for equitable development. In addition to the discussion, students actively created expressive artworks centered on cultural identity and self-expression. These creative engagements served not only as reflective exercises but also as powerful tools for storytelling and advocacy.
