Seen and Unseen - Navigating the Space Between

This session explored how individuals don't simply hide their emotions, but often shape parts of their identity in response to the need for external validation, influencing behavior, self-presentation, and one's inner sense of self over time. Through reflection on the gap between the presented self and the authentic self, participants examined how validation shapes identity, relationships, and emotional well-being.

The session began with introductions through colors associated with the self, followed by the Johari Window activity, helping participants understand how they're perceived by others versus how they see themselves and who they want to be in the future. This led into a mask-making activity, where participants crafted paper masks portraying their inner and outer selves through colors, words, and illustrations, followed by a collective identification moment where participants stood up for statements they related to — a vulnerable exercise that helped them look inward while realizing they weren't alone. The session closed with participants writing affirmations to themselves, turned into lantern lights to keep.

Held in a small, close-knit circle and framed as a "brave space," the session reminded participants that taking steps toward self-understanding can be uncomfortable, but simply showing up is itself an act of courage. Many left with a renewed sense of identity, and new questions about themselves to explore at their own pace.
