The Language Center
The
Language Center is for students who wish to engage in the study of
languages and cultures. The Language Center is therefore an on campus
community of students learning, communicating, and writing in at least
one modern language other than English. The Language Center is run by
the Office of Student Affairs at Thames.
What Does the Language Center Do?
While
adding a second or a third language to their repertoire of linguistic
skills, students engaged in the Language Center will learn international
values, perspectives, and cross-cultural awareness, the nature of
languages being inextricably rooted in the culture and history of their
countries of origin. Students immersed in the Language Center will be in
the process of becoming global citizens, capable of a wide range of
thought and expression. To further this immersion, students will get the
opportunity to visit the country of origin of one of the languages
taught at Thames, with the Language Center organizing trips to France!
Areas of Focus:
The
Language Center offers courses in French in collaboration with Alliance
Française of Kathmandu, and courses in Chinese, in collaboration with
the Confucius Institute.
