Dear Class of 2024,
I offer you the heartiest congratulations on behalf of the entire Thames family. This year, we have 205 students graduating, out of which, there are 118 young men and 87 young women, across the three schools of Thames International College. Regardless of the numbers, each one of you have made a lasting impact on not just the faculty members but also your peers and staff alike, with your demeanor, politeness, and your willingness to bring a change. A special acknowledgement goes to our pioneering batches in Bachelor of Psychology and Bachelor of Computer Application, we are deeply grateful and extend our blessings as you move forward.
Allow me to share an excerpt from my all-time favorite epic, The Mahabharata. After the great war, Arjun, guided by Lord Krishna, emerges victorious. Having defeated many great warriors, Arjun’s pride begins to swell. When Krishna asks him to step off the chariot, Arjun hesitates, consumed by his own sense of accomplishment. But as soon as Krishna dismounts after Arjun, the chariot bursts into flames. Krishna then reveals that it was His divine protection that kept the chariot intact throughout the war, shielding it from countless attacks. In that moment, Arjun realizes a humbling truth—victory wasn’t his alone. It was the collective effort of everyone who supported him, seen and unseen, that led to his success. He learns gratitude and the importance of acknowledging the contributions of others.
As you stand at this crossroads, ready to embark on new journeys, I want you to remember Arjun’s epiphany. Your achievements are rarely yours alone—they are shaped by teachers, family, friends, and countless others who have supported you along the way. So, in this chariot of life, carry the gratitude forward, and recognize that success is never a solo endeavor or an ‘I’ thing, and humility is the mark of true greatness.
Life, as we all know, is tough. From political insurgencies to earthquakes, from a global pandemic to natural disasters, we have endured and passed through every of the phases with positivity. All of the crises, they come and they go. Let these experiences serve as lessons to hold on and stay strong. Fight for what you think is right, never back down from a crisis, and always look for opportunities when and where you can because life and time goes on. You have to stay afloat. I wish that each of you take this as a stepping stone towards your future.
Albeit we are celebrating the 17th Commencement Ceremony, for you all, this commencement denotes both the start of a newer chapter and the end of your wonderful undergraduate journey at Thames. The irony here, however, is that your path to life will start somewhere and end elsewhere but it is ever-evolving. May this life and your new chapter take you forward, to your ambitions, and fulfil all of your dreams. Hence, I wish you all the best for your commencement.
As I conclude, remember to do good today and every other day. Like the saying, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” you have already taken many steps but now, you’re going to take further steps towards your education, your jobs as well as your personal lives. Whether abroad or in Nepal, or wherever your heart leads you, I wish all 205 of you the very best for all the further steps that you take. While you may no longer see these familiar halls every day, remember that the doors of Thames will always remain open as you are a Thames alumni. We look forward to hearing your success stories and celebrating your achievements in the years to come.
Congratulations once again, Class of 2024. Here’s to a future filled with success, happiness, and boundless opportunities.
Warm regards,
Rajendra Man Sherchan
