Rural Development Students Conduct Need Assessment in Bhardev, Lalitpur

The Need Assessment Rural Camp took place from March 6 to March 8, 2025, in Bhardev, Lalitpur, as part of the final-year curriculum for Rural Development students. This immersive experience allowed students to engage with the local community, conduct research, and analyze needs based on self-selected topics. Bhardev, a rural settlement on the outskirts of Lalitpur, provided a unique opportunity to observe local lifestyles, understand cultural dynamics, and interact with residents to gain firsthand insights into rural development challenges and opportunities.

At the School of Social Sciences (SoSS), practical learning is a crucial element of academic excellence. Thames emphasizes rural camps, community visits, and fieldwork to equip students with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and real-world experience. These activities prepare students to assess societal needs, interpret meaningful conversations, and develop actionable solutions for community well-being. As part of their requirements, students conducted a need assessment, identifying challenges within the community and proposing relevant interventions that benefit both locals and the community.

Throughout the three-day rural camp, students actively engaged with local residents, inquired about various socio-economic aspects relevant to their research topics, and explored both traditional practices and future development initiatives. They also participated in peer discussions, critically analyzing the collected data to generate well-rounded perspectives.
